Mini blog #2- Ice on a string




Today i am going to hang an ice cube from a string withour tieing it.:)

Materials:
-Ice cube
- Shallow plate
- water
- string or sewing thread
- salt shaker with table salt
Procedure:
1. Put the ice cube on the plate
2. with the string and the water wet a part of the string
3. place the wet part of the string on top of the ice cube
4. with the string on top of the ice cube put some salt on top
of the a wet part of the string
5. Wait a minute then lift the string and the ice cube will hang on
it
Science:
> The freezing point and the melting point of a substance occur at the same temperature. Pure ice melts when warmed above 0c, and pure water freezes when cooled below 0c. At 0c both the solid and liquid form of water can coexist. Adding a substance to a pure liquid causes the freezing point of the resulting solution to be lowered. This process is called freezing-point depression. The lowering of the frezzing point depends on the amount of salt added. The more salt added, the lower the temperature will be before the salt-water solution freezes
